The Best Cutting Board For Raw Meat Being Reviewed Are:
When I became a professional at-home cook I started reading consumer reports. And the one theme that I kept coming across was cross-contamination. In the articles I read, there was a lot of advice about cutting boards. Most of them said the same thing which was to use one type of cutting board for meat and a different type for vegetables to avoid cross-contamination.
I’m pretty sure growing up my parents had one cutting board for all of their needs and I survived but I suppose now that I know better, I should do better.
But when trying to answer the question of the best cutting board for raw meat you need to know what you want to know. Do you want to know which material is best sanitary-wise for cutting raw meat or the type of cutting board design best for cutting raw meat?
For the purpose of this post, I am assuming that you are looking for the best-designed cutting board for cutting raw meat. And with that, I discuss the best-designed cutting boards for raw meat and I will be reviewing 6 of the top brands.
What type of cutting board material is best for cutting raw meat?
Plastic cutting boards are best for cutting raw meat because they are nonporous. This means that the material doesn’t have any “open pores” or space that bacteria and other things can seep into. This makes plastic easy to clean and it won’t hold smells.
It is not recommended to use bamboo or wood cutting boards because they are hard to clean and sanitize. These types of cutting boards are best for fruits and vegetables. This is why you won’t find any bamboo or wood cutting boards reviewed in this post.
Composite cutting boards, however, can give you the best of both worlds. These types of boards are made with a heavy-duty resin material that is dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Best of all it can take on the appearance of wood and bamboo. Keep in mind though, these types of cutting boards can be hard on your knives.
The last type of cutting board to consider is stainless steel. Stainless steel is also nonporous and is easy to clean and sanitize. It can be used for cutting raw meat and vegetables so you would only need one cutting board to complete both tasks.
- Double-sided cutting board
- One side for cutting veggies etc.
- One side with spikes for cutting meat
- Angled surface and drain to catch food juices when cutting
- Nonslip feet
- Soft grip sides
- Dishwasher safe
More About The Joseph Joseph Cut & Carve Cutting Board
I love the meat grip feature of the Joseph Joseph cutting board. I use a flat plastic cutting board now to cut meat and the meat is always sliding around. I have cut myself a few times because of this. So the fact that this cutting board offers grips to hold the meat in place is a useful and needed feature.
I also like the 2 in one feature. One the one side it has the meat grip to keep the meat in place but on the other side the surface is smooth. The smooth side allows you to cut vegetables, fruits and other things. This feature is great because it eliminates the need to have two cutting boards which will certainly cut down on the kitchen clutter.
Can you say goodbye to icky, sticky, dirty countertops? This cutting board has a wall on the side that catches the juice of the food you are cutting. And to make it even better, it comes with a pour spout so you can easily pour the juices off in the sink.

More About The Oxo Good Grips 3-Piece Cutting Board Set
I do like that there are 3 different color-coded cutting boards in this OXO set but all I can think about is more things to clean. And for someone like me with a small kitchen and almost no storage space, I would just rather have one item that can do it all rather than three.
On the other hand, if I have a larger kitchen with a lot of storage space then having different cutting boards for different functions may be best. I suppose it all boils down to personal preference. But at least with this set, I would remember which color goes to which food group so I wouldn’t inadvertently give my household sick stomachs. But I may forget that in time, so pictures would have been better for me.
Another good feature about this cutting board is that it has a non-porous surface. This means that water, food, and bacteria won’t seep into the cutting board causing it to stain and smell. The surface also won’t dull your knives which can be a good thing for people who like to keep their knives sharp.
The feature I like best about these cutting boards is the soft grip sides. It makes for a comfortable resting place for your writs as you are cutting. And its nonslip feature means it will stay in place and won’t dance all around when cutting up your meats and vegetables. And best of all I won’t have to wipe up the messy juices for food when cutting them because this cutting board has a drip-catching trough.

More About The OOU Reversible Cutting Board
I must say I am quite impressed with all the features of the OOU cutting board. I didn’t realize quite frankly that cutting boards could have so many bells and whistles but this one does and I like that.
The OOU cutting board has two sides but only one side can be used for cutting raw meat and other foods. that can be used for cutting food. The other side is used as dish drain. I wish they would have added a meat grip instead of a dish drain because honestly, I would never think to use my cutting board as a dish drain. But it is a unique feature worth mentioning.
Also, like the J&J and OXO cutting boards, this cutting board has a drip drain too.
One feature I do particularly like though is the garlic grinder. That’s a neat feature that I could see coming in handy as I cook a lot with garlic. Now I just buy the garlic already minced but if I had this cutting board I would probably start buying fresh garlic again. I also like the fact that a knife sharpener is also a part of the cutting board. Even though this cutting board boast being easy on your knives, we all know that knives after multiple uses will eventually dull. And knowing that the sharpener is at your fingertips is really convenient.
The nonporous, odor-resistant polypropylene material of the cutting board is easy to clean by hand or you can just throw it in the dishwasher.

More About The Epicurean Non-Slip Series Cutting Board
I must admit I have never considered a composite cutting board. I didn’t realize that I could get the look of wood without the unsanitary features of wood.
Nevertheless, this Epicurean composite cutting board ticks all the boxes. The composite material means that the cutting board is soft to touch but strong and sturdy.
A neat fact about Epicurean as a company is that in the beginning, it started making ramps for skate parks before using that same durable material to make kitchen cutting boards.
In line with all the other cutting boards reviewed in this post, it is nonslip so you won’t have to worry about it flying off the counter as your cut your food. There is a hole in the side for easy gripping and handling.

What fascinates me the most about this cutting board is its wheat straw side. Wheat straw is a natural by-product of wheat that would normally get burned off. But now it is being used to make eco-friendly products like this cutting board. It is also nonporous and easy to clean and sanitize.
To keep the board in place while cutting foods, it has a micro-textured surface. The cubed design helps reduce noise when cutting by not scrapping against the countertop.
It has deep grooves to keep the juices from flowing onto your countertop as you are cutting food. Once done it is easy to clean. In order to ensure the integrity of your cutting board lasts a long time, it is strongly recommended that you wash it only by hand.
